Mechanical Design Engineer

Successful high technology company is in need of a Mechanical Design Engineer to participate in all aspects of the design and fabrication of high performance electro-mechanical and electro-optical robotic products, including conceptual design, mechanical design, fabrication, and system testing.

Candidate needs to be able to produce manufacturing procedures, bills of materials, fabrication drawings, and assembly drawings. Candidate will be required to coordinate build and purchasing activities internally and with suppliers.

Primary Responsibilities

Candidate will participate in all aspects of the design and fabrication of high performance robotic electro-mechanical and electro-optical products
Create complex 3D models and assemblies utilizing the master-model concept
Coordinate build and purchasing activities internally and with suppliers
Work with vendors to fabricate prototype and production parts and tooling
Designing, analyzing, and developing robust, precision mechanisms used in robotic systems (servo motor control); ability to apply principles of design for assembly and manufacturing
Design extrusions, castings, sheet metal, enclosures, drive-train systems
Building and testing prototypes
Directing test engineers and technicians on specific projects
Create and maintain assembly drawings, parts lists, detail drawings and engineering releases
Provide customer support in the factory and in the field

Requirements

BSME or higher from an accredited university or college
5+ years experience in mechanical product development and engineering with an emphasis on drive mechanisms, gears, motors and precision electromechanical devices.
Strong understanding of all aspects of new product development and design for manufacturability
Proficient in computer-aided 3D parametric design (Unigraphics NX5 preferred); proficiency with FEA modeling tools for structural and frequency analyses is desirable
Knowledge of and experience with metal fabrication techniques (CNC Machining, extrusions, sheet metal, castings) are required.
Understanding of ASME Y14.5 geometric dimensioning and tolerancing and drawing standards
Experience with performing tolerance analysis on complex assemblies
Must be capable of working within a team
Must be capable of thoroughly documenting complex system designs
Proven ability to assist in developing technical solutions to customer specifications
Strong knowledge of drafting procedures, GD&T, 3d modeling, Unigraphics NX5, AutoCAD
Knowledge of design, development, test engineering, and manufacturing processes.
Basic computer skills, including Word, Excel, etc.
Very Good verbal and writing skills are necessary
Background/experience in robotics or automation a plus
Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident
